To celebrate Donald Duck’s 90th Anniversary and tease the MIRL campaign (Mickey In Real Life), Disney threw a “block party” at HERO an immersive at Rockefeller Center. Through immersive experiences, such as life-sized photo ops and engaging activities, the event encouraged an excited Gen Z to dive into the world of Donald Duck.
DJ Pee .Wee’s (aka Anderson .Paak) 90s, vinyl-only DJ set spawned a soul train dance line that brought the hype and energy to make the occasion a truly celebratory and larger-than-life New York moment. At the event’s climax, a balloon drop was the exclamation point at the end of an occasion that was equal parts fun and functionality.
Nick designed and executed all print graphics for the experience resulting in a massive amount of assets that encapsulate the essence of both the fun-spirited nature of Disney with the grit and authenticity of New York. Moments like the step and repeat were inspired by wheatpaste posters seen across construction walls of the city, street signs taking after MTA subway motifs used as wayfinding and the entrance tunnel walls lined with a subway tile graphic overlayed with archival Donald Duck posters.
The event was so successful that Disney decided to take the show on the road with The House of Mouse world tour with DJ Pee .Wee as the headliner, celebrating all of the Exceptional 8 Disney characters.
